A LIFE ON SAFARI

by Geoff Broom with Craig Boddington
(Mission Trails Media, 2005)

Throughout my hunting and writing career renowned professional hunter Geoff Broom has been my friend and mentor as well as one of my great heroes. He has had a remarkable life of adventure in Africa, from cropping marauding elephant and cattle-killing leopard in his native Rhodesia, where he became one of that country’s pioneer outfitters, to operating safaris in Zambia, Tanzania, and other part of Africa. For the last several years, off and on, it has been a great honor and privilege assisting Geoff Broom in telling the remarkable story of his “life on safari.”  I think you will like the results of our efforts, and in the reading you will come to admire and respect Geoff Broom just as much as I do. Hardcover 6”x9”, dust jacket, 224 pages, b&w photos.

FAIR CHASE IN NORTH AMERICA

by Craig Boddington
(Boone and Crockett Club, 2004)

This book is based upon a series of articles on hunting North America big game that I wrote for the Boone and Crockett Club’s Fair Chase magazine during the 1990’s. At the start of the series then-Editor (now Executive Director of B&C) George Bettas and I envisioned that, if I did it right, the series would make a fine book someday. While I was overseas with the Marines in 2002 I took another hard look at this series. A bit of updating was needed here and there, but I was struck by how well the chapters, written over the course of several years, hung together as a cohesive whole. I like the book, and I think you will find it a good read as well as providing a lot of information on North American hunting. Hardcover 6”x9”, 258 pages, b&w photos.

AFRICAN HUNTER II

With Peter Flack and others
(Safari Press, 2004)

James Mellon’s African Hunter, published in 1975, remains a wonderfully valuable reference on African hunting.  I bought my copy in Nairobi in 1977 and I still have it. Of course, the problem with anything written about Africa is that at least some of it will be outdated before the ink is dry. Clear back in 1997, with James Mellon’s blessing, publisher Ludo Wurfbain and I started laying plans for a “modern” version of African Hunter. Had we had any concept of how difficult this would be, how expensive, or how long it would take I’m sure we never would have started! Fortunately we did not know, and seven years later African Hunter II became a reality. It is a collection including the work of many true experts on African hunting, so I can say how I really feel about it without sounding like I’m beating my own drum: It is the best and most complete work on African hunting ever compiled. The editors and artists did a magnificent job with photo selection;  it is also a beautiful book, filled with fabulous color photos, many never seen before. This book is a must for anyone interested in Africa. Hardcover 9”x12”, dust jacket, 606 pages, color photos.

SEARCH FOR THE SPIRAL HORN
(Safari Press, 2002)

I am often asked which is my personal favorite among my books. This is it! Of course I’m a nut about hunting all the spiral horns. They have led me into some of the most remote corners of Africa, and have been the reason (okay, excuse) for some of my finest safaris. Publisher Ludo Wurfbain and I
knew this book would have a very limited market, so we did it as a limited edition only in two grades with a total of only 1250 copies, 1000 copies in a clothbound edition for $150.00 (
SOLD OUT), the others in a Deluxe Leatherbound Edition for $450.00. It will never be reprinted and only a few of these Deluxe Leatherbound Editions remain, 7”x10”, slipcase, 250 copies printed, 357 pages, line drawings by Joel Vance, color photos and color maps.
$450.00

MAKE IT ACCURATE

(Safari Press, 1999)

This book was inspired by my buddy Geoff Miller, one of best riflemen I know and a real accuracy freak. Accuracy, of course, is subjective; we all want different levels and, regardless of what we want, our rifles are capable of different levels. This book is about how to wring the maximum accuracy out of your rifle, whatever it happens to be. Includes how to choose factory rifles, shop for used rifles, and what to look for in custom rifles. Hardcover 6”x9”, dust jacket, 273 pages, b&w photos.
$24.95

THE PERFECT SHOT—NORTH AMERICA

(Safari Press, 2002)
This book is a companion volume to Zimbabwe veterinarian Kevin Robertson’s superb work on African game. Three-dimensional illustrations make visualizing ideal shot placement easier than ever, and the text contains a lot of good information on hunting all the varieties of North American big game. This book is especially valuable for new hunters, and also for old hands planning hunts for varieties of game new to them. Hardcover 8.5”x11”, dust jacket, 215 pages, color photos and illustrations by Laurie O’Keefe.
$39.95

BACK IN PRINT:

WHERE LIONS ROAR Ten More Years of African Hunting
(Safari Press, 1997)
Now back in print after a break of several years, this is my second "10-year African book," following "From Mt. Kenya to the Cape" and of course preceding my brand-new "Tracks Across Africa."  This book recounts safaris taken between 1987 and 1996.  During this period I returned to favorite places like Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Botswana--but I also had the opportunity to hunt places I'd only dreamed about, like Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Tanzania.  This book covers a busy and active time in my life, when I had the opportunity to hunt a wide variety of African big game, from buffalo, elephant, leopard, and lion to some of the great prizes like bongo, giant eland, mountain nyala, and sitatunga.  Hardcover, 6"x9", dust jacket, 350 pages, B&W photos.
$39.95

SAFARI RIFLES

(Safari Press, 1991)

I was absolutely terrified when I finished this book. After all, how could I, an American journalist, expect to bring out a book following in the tradition of such great works as John Taylor’s African Rifles and Cartridges? I do not (and never will) claim the experience of Pondoro Taylor, but I’ve spent a lot of time in Africa and have a lot of experience with rifles, and I guess it worked; since Safari Rifles first saw the light of day I have been truly gratified by its acceptance. One of these days I’ll get around to updating it—but not just yet! Hardcover 6”x9”, dust jacket, 402 pages, b&w photos.
$39.95

FROM MT. KENYA TO THE CAPE-TEN YEARS OF AFRICAN HUNTING
(Safari Press, 1987)

Out of print for several years, this book covers my first ten years of African hunting. Chronologically, the chapters are from the period 1977 to 1986, including hunting in: Kenya, Rhodesia (later Zimbabwe, Zambia, Southwest Africa (later Namibia), South Africa, and Botswana. Hardcover 6”x9”, dust jacket, 274 pages, B&W photos.
