National Wild Turkey Foundation

The 2020 National Wild Turkey Foundation’s 44th Convention & Sport Show in Nashville, Tennessee takes place on February 12th – 16th, 2020.  The NWTF Convention is one of the biggest consumer shows in the country dedicated to conservation and hunting.  The NWTF is celebrating more than 40 years of conservation success by NWTF volunteers and partners.  The NWTF knows how to make their shows fun and exciting, and people just keep coming back year after year.

The convention is held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, TN.  What is great about this convention center is that once you check into your hotel room you do not have to leave the facility for the next several days.  It is an outstanding resort location that has everything you could possibly want all in one location.  If you are into country music you have to visit this location. Some of the great things to do at this resort will amaze you.  If you need a break from the convention, walk around and check out the gardens.  Whether it is the orchids, giant palms, or waterfalls, the building’s humidity keeps everything green and lush.

You can hop onboard the Delta Riverboat for a cruise indoors.  Of course, if you are looking to take a cruise on a larger showboat you can take a ride on the General Jackson Showboat.  The restaurant options are outstanding at the Grand Ole Opry whether you are looking for a great burger at Stax Burgers or a steak at Old Hickory Steakhouse.  I always take a break at some point and head over to Wasabi’s for some sushi and a little downtime to check emails or catch up with an old friend.

One of the things that excites me about the NWTF convention is the number of competitions. The calling competitions are some of the best in the nation.  Take the opportunity to watch some real characters strut their stuff.  Whether you are interested in the Owl Hooting Championship, the Gobbling Championship, the Team Air & Friction Challenge, the Friction Challenge, the Senior Division, the Poult Championship, the Junior Division Championship or the Intermediate Division Championship you have a wealth of options.  I personally love watching some of the Poults go at it.  These 10 and under youngsters can really talk turkey.

The taxidermy competitions are also pretty amazing to check out.  Whether you are looking at wild turkey taxidermy or the whitetail deer competitions there are some fantastic mounts to check out.  Some of these mounts are so realistic you would swear they are living.

The turkey call making competitions are what really interest me.  The talent among these individuals is simply amazing.  The craftmanship that these call makers exhibit is outstanding and in all honesty inspiring.  To have the opportunity to meet these amazing makers is all part of the experience.  And if you are a call collector, this is absolutely one of the best places to be in the nation.

The 2020 National Wild Turkey Foundation’s 44th Convention and Sport Show is where you need to be this February.  The location is outstanding, the attractions are amazing and the camaraderie with your fellow hunter conservationists is worth the price of admission and a few nights at the Gaylord Opryland Resort.
