For…what? That’s Halloween spelled backwards, the biggest event in southeast Kansas, last of October every year in Independence, Kansas. Marching bands, parades, street fairs. More important for our discussion: Just like last year, Independence Gun Club will have our IGC Sporting Heritage Center, 212 North Penn, open to the public October 25-28, with great food and drinks, good folks, and lots of fun.

The first floor of the Center houses our Wildlife Collection, more than 300 mounts from all over the world. This year, our second floor Education Center will also showcase a wonderful display of historic firearms, rifles, pistols, shotguns. Included: A first-year-of production Winchester 1894, an 1873 trapdoor Springfield cavalry carbine that was with the Seventh Cavalry at the Little Big Horn, some of my favorite guns…and much more.Drop by any time 10-6 October 25, 26, or 27. If you’re in town, don’t miss our annual fundraiser on October 28. Live auction will be held 2-5 pm, benefiting IGC’s goal of completing an indoor shooting range within the Center. Merchandise includes great guns, tools, outdoor and household items, raffles, and much more. Hope to see you there…it’s worth the trip!
