Hunts with Griffin Sporting Club are based out of Gowthorpe Manor. This is the Watkinson family home in Norfolk. You won’t be staying at a local hotel or in the remodeled carriage house, you’ll stay with the family in their historic home. You’ll dine at their table and drink from their personal cellar. This authentic experience can’t be manufactured.
George Watkinson, the owner and operator, brings together two different sides of British sporting life. In Norfolk, the lowlands around Gowthorpe Manor offer truly wild Chinese Water Deer and Muntjac; the only place in the world where you can hunt them in the wild. He also offers roe deer and fallow deer, driven pheasant shooting and wild-fowling along the Inner Forth. From there you can head north to Garvault Lodge in the Sutherland Highlands for Atlantic salmon, red stag and sika. Put it all together and you have what Watkinson calls the British Slam—a chance to experience the full spectrum of British hunting, a journey from the manicured fields and estates of England to the wild, open country of the Scottish Highlands.
Everything is built around the individual hunter. Griffin Sporting Club creates an experience exclusively for you. They provide rifle rental and ammunition. Your logistics are taken care of. Whether it’s a visit to a rifle maker, some fishing or exploring your ancestry, they will build the trip around your interests. Griffin Sporting Club coordinates your taxidermy and USDA-compliant shipping.
They can do all these because they limit their business to 30 trips per year. Every inquiry, every itinerary and every detail is handled personally by George Watkinson. In the field, you’re either hunting with him or with one of the select hosts he personally trusts and has trained to the same standard.
